setting the frame
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. I’ll answer any questions you may have and introduce the therapeutic framework that will guide our work. This includes explaining how I structure sessions, what you can expect from the process, and how we’ll stay focused on your goals while making space for what feels most important each week.
I often begin sessions by asking how you’re feeling- (and no, “good”, or “fine” won’t cut it!). This will challenge you to strengthen your emotional vocabulary and become more comfortable recognizing what is happening within you. We’ll also explore your support system and discuss what you hope to gain from therapy.
From there, we’ll allow the conversation to unfold naturally. You bring your experiences and insight, while I provide support, perspective, and guidance to help keep our work intentional and aligned with your goals. I close our sessions with an affirmation card, which almost always aligns with the energy of our session- (you’ll have to see it to believe it!)
